Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec

Kangiqsualujjuaq
Is an Inuit village with a population of less than 1000, located on the east coast of Ungava Bay at the mouth of the George River, in Nunavik, Quebec, Canada.
Industries in Kangiqsualujjuaq include hunting of caribou, seal and beluga whale, arctic char fishing, and the production of Inuit art.

Interview with Tivi Etok

On November 10, 2011 we were honored to have 

Inuk Elder, artist, and author Tivi Etok into our class for 

an interview. The interview was done in Inuktitut 

and the students did the translations into English.

About Us...


William Keelan                                                                                                                      
My name is William Keelan. I am fifteen years old. I am a boy. I live in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec. I have two brothers and two sisters and one is adopted. My hobbies are playing hockey, playing video games and going out. I want to go to college when I finish high school.

Adamie Etok
Hi, my name is Adamie Johnny Etok.  I am fourteen year-old male. I live in George River, Quebec.  I have two brothers and two sisters.  I like to play hockey, play ping-pong, play basketball and play sports. When I finish high school I want to drive a big loader in an underground mine. 

Dallacy Annanack
My name is Dallacy Annanack.  I am 15 years old, and I am a girl.  I live in George River, Quebec.  I have two brothers and one sister; I have one real brother and half brother and sister.  I like drumming and throat singing, I like going out with my friends and driving around my scooter.  My favourite sports are hockey and volleyball.  When I am old enough, I will try to go to college if I finish my Sec. 5 English Exam. 
 
Erik Etok
My name is Erik Etok. I am 15 year old. I am a boy. I live in George River, Nunavik. I have one sister and one foster brother. My hobbies are hockey, going around town, and dirt biking. I want to go to CEGEP.


Molly Etok

My Name is Molly Etok. I am a 16 years old girl. I live in George Rive, Quebec. I have one sister named Manumie and I have three brothers named Mark, Joshua, and Janiali.
My favorite hobby is, I like to walk at night around the town. When I finished high school I will be out of town and work somewhere as a ghost investigator.
 

 Susie Lampe

My name is Susie Saladie Sophie Lampe. I am 15 year’s old, and I’m a girl. I live in Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec. I have one brother and two sisters but my other sister is not here with us. My hobbies are hanging out with friends, and play volleyball, floor hockey but I hate ice hockey because it’s hard to learn how to skate. When I am old enough, I’ll try to go to college if I finish my Sec. 5 English EXAM.

My name is Henriatta Monica Annanack. I am 15 years old. I am a girl. I live in Kangirsualujjuaq, George River, Quebec. I hangout with Susie everyday, we always go to the Youth Center when it is open. I want to graduate from Ulluruaq School and if I graduate I want to go to college.

Stanley Annanack
My name is Stanley Annanack and I am fourteen years old.  I live in George-River, Nunavik, Quebec.  I have one half sister, two half brothers and three brothers.  In my spare time I like to play ice hockey, volley ball, go camping, and go to school.  When I get older, I want to be a NHL drafted player.


Jimmy Emudluk
Hello, my name is Jimmy, I am a 13 year old boy. I live in George-River, Québec.
I have a brother and a sister. My hobbies are hockey and volleyball. When I am finished high school and college I want to be in the NHL.

My name is Randall Lucasie Morgan. I am 15 years old. I live in Kangiqsualujjuaq Quebec. I have one brother and one sister. I like to drive my two-wheeler around town.
When I am done high school, I will become a pilot.


 
Jamie Snowball 
My name is Jamie Snowball.  I am fifteen years old and I am a boy.
I live in George River, Quebec. I have one brother and one sister they are younger than me.  I like camping with my grandfather.  I like playing hockey and I’m in Midget.
When I finish high school I want to be a heavy equipment mechanic.

Timothy Baron                                             
My name is Timothy Willie Jimmy Baron I am a 16-year-old male. I live in George River, Quebec. I have one brother and two sisters. When I’m not at school, at night, I drive my scooter, if my scooter is working. If it is not working I walk around with my friends. When I’m older and when I finish high school I would like to be a helicopter pilot, so I can land anywhere.

Our Favorite Place's in Kangiqsualujjuaq

Adamie Etok
My favorite place’s name is the Kangiqsualujjuaq Arena. It is beside the Northern store, where we buy everything in George River.
I play hockey at my favorite place. I feel good when I score a goal when I am playing hockey. I see lots of scoring, and I smell sweat, and hear lots of swearing!

 
Dallacy Annanack

My favorite place is the Arena in George River.  My favorite place is beside the mountain, the white and green northern and community center.  I play hockey and free skate at my favorite place.  I feel happy and excited to play hockey.  I see people playing hockey, they smell like sweat and I hear people talking and swearing at my favorite place.


Stanley Annanack
 My favorite place’s name is the Kangiqsualujjuaq Arena. My favorite place is beside the community center and the Northern grocery store. I play hockey and workout with weights at the arena. I feel happy when I play hockey at my favorite place. I see hockey rink, coaches, ice, players and windows. I smell the ice and fresh air. I hear people talking, blades on the ice and shooting the puck at the arena. It is the best place I have been to!



William Keelan
 My favorite place is the Arena, because I love to play hockey there. My favorite place is beside the Community Center, the Elder’s apartment and the Northern Store. I play hockey at my favorite place and I watch people play hockey to, because I love being in my favorite place. I feel awesome when I play my favorite sport in my favorite place. I smell the Gold when we have a tournament with all the 14 communities in Nunavik.  I hear people wanting the puck when they are not covered by the defensemen, or when they have a chance to have a breakaway.

My favorite places name is the George River 

arena. My favorite place is located beside the 

community centre. I play hockey at my favorite 

place. I feel excited when I’m there. I see the ice, I

smell the ice, and I hear skates crushing the ice 

when I’m there.

 
Erik Etok

My favorite place’s name is Qaillualuk. It is North of our town we would have to go past the airport.  We go by the sea ice to go to the camping spot. We can only go there by ski-doo. At my favorite place I hunt, I kill geese and I eat them. This is where I kill my first goose. I feel so good every time I go there. I smell the land, the wood burning. I hear the wood burning, the geese and the gunshots.


Henriatta Annanack

My favorite place in George River is in Youth Center. The Youth Center is in the between the arena, apartments, and houses. At the Youth Center I play pool. It’s fun when at my favorite place because I like playing pool. When I’m at the Youth Center I see lots of my friend and there is a lot of stuff to do.



Susie Lampe
My favorite place in George River is the Youth Center. It’s beside the Northern, where we do our shopping and Elder’s apartments. At my favorite place I like to hang out friends and play volleyball. If I am at the Youth Center I feel better and happier. At my favorite place I see people and hear the noise of music, when I am there.
 
Jamie Snowball

My favorite place to go in George River is the Community Center. The Community Center is beside the arena and The Northern, a small store where the cost of food is very expensive. At the Community Center I play sports like basketball, volleyball, floor hockey and mix activity. I feel happy when I play sports in the Community Center. I usually see not many people inside the Community Center. I smell sweat and I hear bouncing balls at the Community Center.



Molly Etok

My favorite place in George River is the Kangiqsualujjuaq airport
The airport is far from the town. You have to go north to get there.
I walk there from my house for fun. It takes close to an hour to get there.
If I walk there I feel tired and thirsty because it is a long walk.
When I am at the airport I see people, trucks, and planes arriving. I hear planes coming in and people working.
 
Randall Morgan   
My favorite places name is Kangiqsualujjuaq arena. Where people play hockey.
My favorite place is in front of the Northern store and the Elders apartment.
I play hockey at my favorite place. It feels great to play hockey. I feel like playing hockey when I am at my favorite place. I smell sweat and I hear skating in my favorite place.
 

  
Timothy Baron

My favorite place is IIlutaliviniq, it is where the old town used to be when the co-op opened in 1959 everyone moved to our new town now there are no more houses or people in Illutaliviniq. We can go there only by boat. It is up river we go there for camping, fishing and hunting in September and October. We hunt for seal, caribou and beluga and fish for artic char and salmon. It feels good when we catch animals. We also hear the Qupanuajjuaq singing and the Earth smells very good.
